Top notch protection for your PC |
Having ordered this product from Amazon (along with the Norton Personal Firewall) I had slight reservations before I installed it bearing in mind the other reviews below. However, Im very pleased to say that I had no difficulties whatsoever with the installation (I run Windows 98 SE) and found it to be an easy, no fuss operation from start to finish - the Antivirus and the Firewall have installed and operated flawlessly. The range of features on the 2004 edition is very impressive and certainly provides peace of mind for regular web surfers, e-mail junkies and people who cant live without their MSN messenger ! In addtion the Antivirus and Firewall products seamlessly intermesh to provide probably the best all round protection for home PC users on the market. Overall, Ive been very impressed with the Norton 2004 Antivirus - this is top of the range software and a very reliable antivirus solution.

Dont mix and match with other programs |
I have no doubt that this is a good product when used on its own, but Ive had a bad experience using it. I already had Norton Personal Firewall 2003 installed, then bought this Antivirus 2004. Ever since I installed the AV, I could hardly ever start Windows XP, kept looping around the early stages of startup. The help screens on the Symantec website indicated that AV 2004 doesnt like other antivirus products or firewalls being installed alongside AV - evidently including its own products. I then had a terrible job trying to uninstall both products, again referring to the Symantec website for guidance. The product is now half on, half off the computer as the uninstall didnt work properly either. The abortive uninstall has removed some essential Windows XP files, and I dont have any internet access or e-mail facility, and what else is missing I darent look. I am about to reformat the computer and start again. The lesson seems to be, either buy and install the whole Norton suite together, or use either the Firewall or Antivirus on their own. I am sure that my bad experience is an isolated occurrence, but stands as a warning to anyone who tries to mix and match the products as I did.

This is Good but Norton Internet Security 04 is Better |
I have recently upgraded from this to Norton Internet Security 2004 (which includes a firewall, ad blockers, virus protection etc.) If you are considering buying this I would really recommend that you spend an extra £10 or so and get the whole package.....Excellent.
